CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS

The National Institute of Telecommunications in Warsaw, Department of Transmission and Fibre Technology, together with the Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya in Barcelona and the IEEE/LEOS Poland Chapter are pleased to announce the 7th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks ICTON 2005, which will be kindly hosted by Telefónica at Edifici Estel, Avda. de Roma 73-91, Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain, July 3 - 7, 2005. ICTON 2005 is receiving technical co-sponsorship by the IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society.

Barcelona, the capital city of Catalonia is an industrial, cultural and academic centre and the famous tourist destination in Mediterranean West Coast. The international airport makes the city easily accessible.

The scope of the Conference is concentrated on the applications of transparent and all-optical technologies in brodband telecommunication networks, systems, and components, and includes:

  • Digital All-Optical Networks
  • Ultra-dense Wavelength-Division Multiplexing
  • Ultra-fast Optical Time Domain Multiplexing
  • Chromatic Dispersion compensation
  • Polarisation Mode Dipersion
  • Wavelength conversion
  • Optical transparency & network scalability
  • Optical amplifiers
  • New fibre types, Plastic fibres
  • Nonlinear transmission
  • New transmission windows
  • VCSELs and other novel light sources
  • Photonic Band-Gap structures (ESPC)
  • Photonic crystal fibres
  • Nonlinear & active PBG devices
  • Grating-based photonic components
  • Optical switching and routing (WAOR)
  • Optical Packet Networks & Services
  • Optical memories and data storage
  • Nanoscale/ultrafast components
  • Quality of Service issues
  • Network reliability & availability
  • Wireless/Optical Networking (GOWN)
  • Radio-over-fibre transmission
  • Analogue transmission systems
  • Broadband metro and access networks
  • Next Generation Networking
  • Modelling of optical systems and components
  • Network planning and design tools
  • Graphs and algorithms in network modelling
  • Standardisation issues
  • Non-conventional optical communications
  • Other relevant topics
The ESPC is intended to monitor the technology, theory and modelling advances within the field with emphasis on telecommunication applications. The WAOR will review the progress in all-optical switching and routing devices, networking aspects, and traffic engineering. The GOWN part will address the convergence of wireless and optical communication technologies for next generation networks and services.

Authors are cordially invited to submit the contributions (4 pages in electronic form, Word 6.0 or later version accompanied by a PDF version) for Regular and Poster Sessions to icton@itl.waw.pl , by April 30, 2005. The authors will be notified on the acceptance by May 15, 2005. Post-deadline papers with recent results are requested by June 1, 2005.

Ambitious technical and social programs and friendly relations are traditional ICTON goals. We are looking forward to the pleasure to welcome you in Barcelona in July 2005.
