National Institute of Telecommunications (NIT) is a descendant of National Communications Institute (PIT), established back in 1934 by professor Janusz Groszkowski, the pioneer of Polish radio engineering. Since the very beginning, the Institute has been the competence center of Polish communications technology and science. One shall remember for example the first TV trial broadcasts in 1938.
National Institute of Telecommunications is a telecom R&D center, active in the fields of network development and national/international standardization of communication systems and equipment.
The Scientific Council of National Institute of Telecommunications has authority to confer Ph.D. degrees in technical sciences.

The 7th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks will be held in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain on July 3-7, 2005.
ETSI The National Institute of Telecommunications is a full member of the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) and therefore has the right to attend meetings of Technical Bodies and to participate in their work with the right to vote. The Institute has also collected a full set of ETSI publications and maintains a relevant database.
Rental The Institute cooperates with Livingston on rental, calibration and maintenance of measurement equipment.
